We had a great experience. The food was delicious and served hot despite us being in patio. Jessica served us with everything quick and did make sure she was there to check if we needed anything from time to time. Would come back again and hope we meet her again.

First time here at the upper James location and it didn’t let us down at all!! Brett was our server tonight keeping the family entertained every pass by the table! The food was great and came out promptly and perfect cooked! We had the honkin beef rib… oh yeah!!! Steak, chicken tacos, and a kids pizza! Brisket burnt ends to start with was a nice touch having the dill pickle slaw on it!! Definitely will be back soon!!!

We had an incredible experience thanks to our server, Drew! From the moment we sat down, he went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. He was super attentive — the second our drinks were low, he was already back with fresh ones. He checked in often without ever being intrusive, made sure we had everything we needed, and never left us waiting for a thing. His timing, friendliness, and attention to detail made the entire evening seamless and enjoyable. Drew is a total pro — if you’re lucky enough to have him as your server, you’re in for a great night. Can’t recommend him enough!

Ordered the 12oz striploin (medium) and it was so tender! The fries, even with just salt and pepper as seasoning, were some of the best I've had at a restaurant. Our server Andrew was also so awesome, very attentive, charismatic and made our dinner very pleasurable. I'd come back just for him and his service 😊

This used to be a regular stop for me a couple of times a month some years back, but then I moved out of the area. A few of us ended up on Upper James for some shopping, and I suggested we all eat here as it was an old favourite. We arrived around 4:30, so it only had a few tables of people and a couple solos at the bar. Not busy at all. The gentleman serving us came to get our order three times in a short period. We got our order in when we were ready, and when he dropped our food off that was it, never saw him again. Two of the three of us ordered fries, and they were bone white and gritty from not being cooked. We couldn't eat them.
I kept looking at him anytime he was close, but he didn't look over at our table at all. Finally when we were close to done, I verbally called him over. I said the fries weren't done, and he made out like we just liked them "extra crispy". His words. He asked if we wanted another order of them, but our other food was finished at that point. We asked for replacements to go. We got them super fast, and they were visibly not done very much more than the previous batch. He said, "There you go, extra crispy I made sure myself." Burgers were decent at least.
I don't know which was worse, the service or the fries...but that whole it takes years to build a customer relationship, and seconds to lose one thing? Congrats Montana's, you pulled it off.
